In 2019, I spent a lot of time hiking the ridges in the Nebraska National Forest adjacent to Chadron State Park. The Black Hills Overlook is the starting point, with plenty to see in all directions. I was drawn to Crow Butte, 15 miles in the distance, and worked on a number of compositions that included it. I shot this scene with a long lens to compress the near and far elements, and made tonal adjustments to reduce haze in the background.
